Luke 2:22-40
Jesus was special to Mary and Joseph. (Aren’t all babies special to their parents?) But there was something more. And the special nature of Jesus was celebrated by two perfect strangers in the Temple – Simeon and Anna.
The editors of the Spark Story tell this biblical story like this:
There was an old man named Simeon… He knew God’s words and believed God’s promises… God promised Simeon that he would not die until he saw the person God was sending to save the whole world!
You guessed it. Simeon saw little Jesus in the Temple when he was being dedicated, and he told everyone who Jesus was.
Mary and Joseph were amazed! Was Jesus part of God’s promise to save the whole world?
Enter a second witness – Anna.
And old woman named Anna was also at the Temple… She worshipped God and prayed day and night. When Anna saw Jesus, she rushed over. She knew Jesus was special……
Jesus WAS special. Not just to Mary and Joseph, or to Simeon and Anna, but to this world that He came to save.
That means He’s special to us.
Prayer
God, thank You for sending a Savior who is as special to me as he was to his parents and these witnesses in the Temple. Help me to celebrate how special Jesus is as I follow Him as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
