READ: Joshua 21:45

Not one of the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.

Joshua 21:45

Much of the Old Testament book of Joshua is devoted to telling the story of the Hebrew people entering the Promised Land, the conquest of the territory, and the defeat of their enemies. In Chapter 21, we learn how the land was divided among the twelve tribes of Israel. God had promised this land to His people and now they took possession of it. In a brief summary sentence, clearly, the people reviewed what God had done and found God to be faithful to His promises to them.

Not one of the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.

Standing on the Promises alludes to that summary and looks to the future. Standing on the promises of Christ my king, through eternal ages let his praises ring; glory in the highest I will shout and sing, standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Savior. Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

You and I are invited to look back and to recall how God has kept His promises to us. Then with all the saints, we can joyfully sing how we are able to stand on God’s promises.

Prayer

O God, throughout the course of our lives, we encounter many persons who will make promises. We have been disappointed and hurt when promises have not been kept. We ask You to heal these wounds. We also acknowledge that even with the best of intentions, we have not always kept promises we have made. Forgive us. Accept our praise and thanks, O God, for always keeping Your promises to us. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
