Patti Herndon was given a starter Nativity set and over the years she has added to the collection.

Over forty years ago Patti received a starter Nativity set from a friend from Charleston. The Fontanini pieces she received that year were an angel, Mary, Joseph, the Baby Jesus and a manger. During the intervening years of this initial gift and today she has added the stable, other characters and animals to create a semblance of the people and animals dwelling in that little corner of Bethlehem when Jesus was born.

Patti displays the nativity set on a bureau in her living room. Her children and grandchildren have been fascinated with the figures and she has enjoyed recounting to them the story of our Savior’s birth.

Scripture: Proverbs 17:7, 18:24

Thought for the Day: “Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.” What friend have you known the longest? Who is your newest friend?

Prayer: Blessed Lord, we thank You for the words of wisdom found in Proverbs about true friendship. We thank You for our friends and ask Your blessing on them. Especially at Christmas as we celebrate Jesus’ birth, we are reminded of what a friend we have in Him. In His name, we pray. Amen.
