1 Corinthians 15:52

For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

The butterfly is a symbol of resurrection, both that of Jesus Christ and for those who are his followers. While it does not appear in scripture, the metamorphosis that a caterpillar goes through serves as an illustration of the Christian life and resurrection. As a caterpillar enters into the cocoon, they are dormant and almost lifeless, but then emerge as a beautiful new creation. This stage of new life and beauty captures this idea of the resurrection. Following life and death here on earth, we will experience new life and even eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Mighty God, we give You thanks for the promise of new life. We know that following Your ways and seeking Your will is a gift that provides for rebirth and renewal. Help us to rejoice in the blessing of this day and the opportunities we have to show Your love to others. Amen.
