Take Jesus To Egypt

Matthew tells us that when Jesus was but a little baby, his father Joseph was told by Yahweh in, of all things, a dream to take Jesus and his mother to Egypt for their safety.  Herod the evil ruler of Israel would search for the child in order to destroy God’s Son.  Herod must of heard that the God of Israel has come to earth through the normal process of a woman having a child.  Herod probably did not believe such a possibility, but still, even rumors would spread and just might influence some to question Herod’s authority over Israel.

We are not told by Matthew, but Joseph must have heard some of what was being said in the market place.  There must have been many who as they learned of the Birth of Christ, as told by the Shepherds and the wise men, who immediately wonder just how would Herod take this possible threat to his authority.

So how was Joseph warned of this possible threat to him and his family?  We are told by God’s angel who came to Joseph, “Go right now, take your child and his mother, and flee to Egypt for safety and stay there until Herod dies and this threat is gone.”

I’m sure that we all have dreams.  Some seem to come out of the blue, or should we say night, and they seem so real we wonder.  But, have you ever questioned, could this be a message from God?  Who’s to say yes or no?  Whether or not our dreams are God’s avenue of revelation, we do take care that they may be.  So, my good friends, let us pay close attention, at least for a few days, about what was given to us to think about.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, not only the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus, but also our Spiritual Father, come to us often in our journey of life and bless us with guidance and safety through all our days. We pray in the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior. Amen.
