Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal

Nahum 1:15

Look! On the mountains the feet of one who brings good tidings, who proclaims peace! Celebrate your festivals, O Judah, fulfill your vows, for never again shall the wicked invade you; they are utterly cut off.”

In verse 2 of Take My Life”, we find an allusion to Nahum 1:15. What is attractive about feet is not the beauty or handsomeness of them, but what they do. It is with our feet that we walk or run. In this case, what is most important is that the feet are what bring good tidings and peace. These feet have scaled lofty mountains to deliver these precious messages and to announce that never again will Judah be invaded by the wicked, so the people shall celebrate at their festivals.

The Glory to God commentator has written, “This hymn of consecration radiates from the repeated word, “take,” resulting in a remarkably full survey of a person’s attributes and possessions giving weight to the “all” at the end.”

Prayer

Bounteous God, you have truly blessed us in so many ways so that we have much to give and to share. Help us always to remember that all we have and all we are come from your incredible generosity. Thank you, Lord! Amen.
