The Heavens Declare

Wow! I cannot even begin to imagine how John felt when he realized he was going to be the one to baptize Jesus. John knew automatically that he was not worthy to baptize our Savior, but Jesus had other plans. He specifically tells him, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” So God had it planned out all along. John would be the one preparing the way for Jesus and he would also be the one who would baptize him. Once again, John steps out of his comfort zone and baptizes our Lord.

But Jesus’ baptism wasn’t like the ones we see on Sunday mornings when little babies, children, and sometimes adults are baptized. During this miraculous baptism, the heavens were opened and the Spirit of God came down upon Him. Once again, the word WOW just keeps coming to my head. Can you imagine for a moment witnessing this? We get to see amazing miracles every single day, sunrises, sunsets, babies being born, flowers blooming, rainbows brightening up the sky – but to see the heavens open and the Spirit of God coming down – WOW! But God didn’t stop there, no, He put His voice into the miracle as well, He proclaims, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” For those who needed to see it to believe it – well there you go and just in case you missed that part – God spoke it out loud as well.

I have been very blessed to travel to the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, I have seen beautiful sights around Europe, but being able to experience the baptism of Jesus, that is probably the 2nd greatest miracle, right after his birth. Then to hear the heavens declaring that this is God’s son and God is pleased with him. Wow! God is so very good my friends and we can be thankful that He has it all planned out, well in advance, we need not fret – He’s got the whole world in His hands.

Prayer

Awesome Lord, You are absolutely amazing! You planned out everything from the very beginning and nothing happens without You knowing it in advance. Help us to have faith like John and to step out of our comfort zones and go where You call us to go and to trust in Your timing and plans. Help us Lord to always be Your people and to see miracles every day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
