In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Those words, that statement, that declaration has inspired many to create prose and poetry in praise of God . . .

God, who stretched the spangled heavens infinite in time and place, flung the suns in burning radiance through the silent fields of space. (God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens)

The play of the God-head, the Trinity’s dance, embraces the earth in a sacred romance . . . (The Play of the Godhead)

God of great and God of small, God of one and God of all, God of weak and God of strong, God to whom all things belong. (God of Great and God of Small)

All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful the Lord God made them all. (All Things Bright and Beautiful)

I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise, that spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies. (I sing the Mighty Power of God)

Wouldn’t it be nice if all mankind could stop at this one verse, consider what has been given to them, rejoice in this gift, and work together to appreciate and preserve it together? Beautiful phrases in songs of praise are just not enough to inspire mankind to exist in a world of peace.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help us to remember these words as we work together to sustain this earth and live in peace. Please help us remember that the details that set us apart need to be forgiven and forgotten. Help us to remember that we are all one in your sight and keep this as our guiding light. Amen.
