The Serenity Prayer

God give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed.
Courage to change the things which should be changed,

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace
Taking as Jesus did
This sinful world as it is.
Not as I would have it
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.

This prayer is attributed to theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971). The shortened version is the one with which we are most familiar. It encourages us to enjoy life (see Ecclesiastes 3:12-13) and not to worry (see Matthew 6:34).

Prayer

O God, from the scriptures and from famous prayers, help us to make greater strides by enjoying each day of life that You give us and by not worrying about tomorrow, of which none of us has as a guarantee. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
