Hymn 238

As you begin reading the title of this Easter hymn, have you already begun the drum beat and finished the first very popular line…Rise, conquering Son? This tune comes to mind as I think of my first church as a Director of Christian Education in Frankfort, KY.  As the children’s choir came forward in their Sunday best and join the choir in the refrain,

Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; endless is the victory thou over death hast won!

As I have heard our own Christ’s Kids join in 2022 Easter’s worship. Even as the words ‘Thine’ and ‘thee’ have faded from our conversational dialectic, in music we understand exactly who we are singing about and whom the song is speaking. And so, in this Eastertide, we join as the church with gladness sing such hymns of triumph found in the Son, Christ Jesus.

Risen Son of our Gracious God, indeed, you meet us at the empty tomb and bring words of peace and songs of joy. May we embrace such glorious, good news and sing our praise, Amen.
