This Is Where the Healing Begins

The Apostles Heal Many

The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s Colonnade. No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed. Acts 5:12-16

There are times when I think to myself, I wish we had “healing times” like we did in the past. We could bring someone who was sick to one of the Apostles and they would instantly be healed. Reading about the blind seeing and the lame walking, sometimes doesn’t even seem real to me since most of the healing I hear or read about takes medication, time, and sometimes death before true healing can occur.

But I love the faith of the Apostles and how they carried out the healing, which would then attract new people to the church. Oftentimes we feel like we need an actual visual sign before we believe in something. With the Apostles healing in the name of Jesus Christ, people were healed, and then people believed in our Lord and Savior.

Don’t get me wrong, I know today people are healed all the time. Miraculous things happen that no one can explain and people are completely healed from ailments, diseases, and other issues they are having. God is still working today, all the time healing people. I just love how healing was done to help draw people to the church, assist in their belief in Jesus, and that they could see Jesus’ power was still here on earth through His disciples. But maybe it’s just my perspective that needs to change a bit. Maybe I need to strengthen my faith and pray like the Apostles did and maybe just maybe I will see “healing times” before me.

Prayer

Great Physician, please give us the faith as the Apostles had to pray for healing among our people. Between sicknesses, heartache, broken relationships; healing needs to occur in our world. We pray God that You will give us faith to pray big prayers of faith as we believe in Your healing hands to touch our friends, family members, and even ourselves. Amen.
