John 13:34-35
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
Recently in a sermon I shared how much I enjoy Vacation Bible School games, or the recreation station. I truly see this time of activity, energy, and plain fun as the opportunity for children to live their faith. When challenged with the action of a game, will they allow the desire to ‘win’ or come their call to be kind and loving? Will they support their friends? Will they help them if they fall or share the fun? When children are able to share their faith through their words but then their actions during the game time at VBS, my heart is full. My smile is at its biggest when they giggle and enjoy running under a parachute or together collect the ‘wheat,’ hidden around the room or soak a teen helper with a spray bottle during tag. Each day the children were indeed reminded to trust God and each other.
Prayer
God of glory, we are grateful that you are a God who goes with us. We remember your promise that we are never alone, and we show our love by loving others. May we do so in word and deed, even in the moments of fun. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
