Do not be among winebibbers,
or among gluttonous eaters of meat;
for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty,
and drowsiness will clothe them with rags.

Proverbs 23:20-21

There are some words in the English language that should be a part of our vocabulary for their corrective value. Two cases in point: winebibbers and gluttons

If you just listen to the words, you probably don’t want other people to call you either of those names.

wine·bib·ber [ˈwīnˌbibər] noun archaic literary
a habitual drinker of alcohol.

glut·ton [ˈɡlətn] noun
an excessively greedy eater.
synonyms: gourmand · overeater ·
big eater · gorger · gobbler · pig · chowhound

And, according to Proverbs, behaving so that we are defined by these terms leads to poverty, and in our drowsiness we will be clothed in rags.

Be careful what and how you eat and drink today. Make your vocabulary reflect your true identity.

Prayer

Dear God, let me use my mouth today, in each and every way, to give You praise and to keep my path pure. Amen.
