As I was reading over Psalm 8, I was particularly struck by verses 3-6 which read:
When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers-
The moon and the stars you set in place-
What are mere mortals that you should think about them.
Human beings that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God
And crowned them with glory and honor.
You gave them charge over everything you made,
Putting all things under their authority
Feelings of worthlessness overcome me at times. I often feel unworthy of the blessings in this life. After reading these verses I was reminded that because of God’s greatness, and by His greatness I am created, that you and I are worth it. Yes, we are WORTH it!
There are days I walk outside and marvel at the beauty I get to be part of each and every day. I get to live in a world full of majesty and wonder that God created and I can’t help but feel unworthy at times. As verse three states:
When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you set in place. What are mere mortals that you think about them? Human beings that you should care for them?
I have honestly felt that exact sentiment after looking into the night sky. Then verse 5 brings me back to the fact that he created us a little lower than himself. He loves us and considers us highly valuable. A healthy fear of the Lord is good and necessary teaching us humility, we are also to remember he thinks we are wonderful and loves us a great deal because we are his children and as such are wonderfully made. He created this world for us to live in and gave us charge over everything he made. When I really sit and let the power of these verses sink in, it gives me butterflies to think he loves us that much and thinks this much of us.
The next time you are tempted to feel unworthy of God’s love, go get your Bible, find a quiet place, and open to Psalm 8:3-6 and let the weight of them wash over you. Reassuring you that God loves you and you are worth it. Not because of who you are or what you have done, but because of who He is.
Gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for Your unending love and grace. When we start to feel unworthy of these two things help us to remember that You created us in Your image and that Your love never fails. In Your Most Precious Name, Amen
