Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12

Contained in the Gospel According to John are a series of “I AM” statements. In several places, Jesus gives good news to people by claiming that what they need – He is. Not long before healing a blind man, Jesus talks about people walking in the light rather than in the darkness. It’s a good way to avoid stumbling. I long for light.

When I travel overnight, I try to pack a flashlight. In a strange room, I set it on the nightstand before I go to bed. I like light especially in the night. It gives me a sense of security, peace, and confidence.

I like the thought of Jesus providing that light in my life day and night.

Prayer

God, thank you for illuminating my path with your written Word, and Jesus, the Word made flesh. Thank you for the security, peace, and confidence I find in following Him. Amen.
