Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal

II Chronicles 5:13-14

Hymn 689 reminds us that praising God with music is a theme that runs through the scriptures and the lives of God’s people. Humans on earth lift voices and instruments are lifted in adoration to God, just as the stars and heavenly beings praise our Creator and Sustainer.

In the biblical book of II Chronicles, members of the congregation and community, were implored to let their music be the vehicle for worshiping.

13 It was the duty of the trumpeters and singers to make themselves heard in unison in praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, and when the song was raised, with trumpets and cymbals and other musical instruments, in praise to the Lord,

 “For he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever,”

the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, 14 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

2 Chronicles 5:13-14

If we have a song in our hearts that helps us to praise the Lord, let it sound!

Prayer

Wonderful God, I join the morning stars and angels in lifting my praise to You. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise God all You creatures here below. Praise God above ye heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
