Your Grace Finds Me

It’s there in the newborn cry
It’s there in the light of every sunrise
It’s there in the shadows of this light
Your great grace

It’s there on the mountaintop
It’s there in the everyday and the mundane
There in the sorrow and the dancing
Your great grace
Oh, such grace

From the creation to the cross
Then from the cross into eternity
Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me

It’s there on a wedding day
There in the weeping by the graveside
There in the very breath we breathe
Your great grace

Same for the rich and poor
Same for the saint and for the sinner
Enough for this whole wide world
Your great grace
Oh, such grace

From the creation to the cross
Then from the cross into eternity
Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me

There in the darkest night of the soul
There in the sweetest songs of victory
Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me

Your great grace
Oh, such grace
Your great grace
Oh, such grace

So I’m breathing in Your grace
And I’m breathing out Your praise
I’m breathing in Your grace
Forever I’ll be
Breathing in Your grace
And I’m breathing out Your praise
I’m breathing in Your grace
And I’m breathing out Your praise
Breathing in Your grace
For our God, for our God

Yes, Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me

I sat back and listened to this song again, Your Grace Finds Me by Matt Redman, before I started typing my devotional. I knew the tune, I could sing most of the words, but honestly I didn’t know them all and now that I do, wow the song is even more powerful. His grace finds us. It finds us in the newborn cry. Because I am very familiar with a newborn cry and now an infant cry, the very beginning of the song instantly touches my heart. God’s grace is there, the moment a baby takes his or her first breath and their first cry is heard. God’s grace continues during the first few weeks when there are continuous cries during sleepless nights, or days when nothing seems to calm the little one, God’s grace is there. God’s grace is there in the sunrise, on the mountaintop, in our everyday actions, it’s there during the times of mourning and rejoicing, God’s grace my friends is everywhere and never leaves us.

Let’s look at Matthew 5:44-45, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

It doesn’t matter if we are good enough for God’s grace, if we are saints or sinners, God’s grace is here for us all. What comfort that brings because I know there are days when I don’t deserve His grace, but His grace finds me.

Continue with me to Psalm 145:9, “The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.” Once again we are reminded that in every breath we take, His grace finds us. When I looked up the definition of grace, I came across this: “Grace derives from the Greek, charis. In secular Greek, charis was related to chairo, “to rejoice.” As far back as Homer it denoted “sweetness” or “attractiveness.” It came to signify “favor,” “goodwill,” and “loving-kindness” — especially as granted by a superior to an inferior.” His loving-kindness freely flows down upon us. He shares it openly. The bridge of the song truly touches my heart and I would like us to use that as our prayer for today.

Prayer

God of Grace, I’m breathing in Your grace – And I’m breathing out Your praise – I’m breathing in Your grace – everyday, all of the time, through every circumstance. Thank you Lord, for your continuous grace finding each and every one of us every single day. Amen.
