Psalm 25:1-10
O LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.
Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Remember, O LORD, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past.
Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD.The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.
It’s hard to believe in the bright, relentless August sun, that there are indeed days when shadows seem to, well over-shadow all the joy and light of that day. There are times when the only word on our lips is help. Psalm 25 begins in this ash heap, this lament of while the dark clouds may be above and the heaviness of life can feel overwhelming, the Psalmist sits in trust. Trust in a God who does listen. Trust in a God, who may have taken the seat next to her and just is present. This dependable God has been there in the past, may be there in the present, if one doesn’t recognize it immediately and will, God willing, be there in the future. So they cling, so he speaks of what the Psalmist knows, a God of failing love and faithfulness. A God who keeps promises and one of deep abiding hope. My prayer as those clouds may be gathering on the horizon of your own life, you may too be comforted by the God who saves.
Prayer
Generous God, you’ve alighted our paths in life even in the darkest of nights. You’ve spoken words of hope and peace in the quietest whispers as everything else in life was overwhelming static. And so we cling, with all our heart, mind and strenght to your constancy of care, your reassurance that only your Son provides. This is our prayer, this is our touchstone, this is our petition, save us O Lord.
