I am thankful for x-rays.

Proverbs 14:15

The simple believe everything,
but the clever consider their steps.

Let’s be real; not a lot of words start with X. Xylophones can certainly make a joyful noise, but for me today it is x-rays. I’m not really focusing on this specific type of radiation, but what they represent. For me, x-rays speak to way God has gifted us with intelligence and creativity. When you ponder the complexity and wonder of the human body, it clearly speaks to the power of God. Then, when you start to think about what we have learned about the body, how to care for injury, and how to diagnose and treat disease, it obviously points to the intelligence and reason that God has gifted to us. To think that we can take an image and look inside the human body is remarkable. This gift is especially meaningful as we continue to fight an awful virus in COVID. The God-given gifts of intelligence, creativity and determination are on full display as we continue to learn more about the virus, how it is spread, new courses of treatment, and advances in vaccines and medicines. Today, I’m thankful for x-rays that show whether is a bone is broken, but also represent gifts from God that can be used to care for one another.

Prayer

Holy God, You have gifted us with intelligence and imagination. I thank You for brains that can solve problems and create solutions in a myriad of ways: curing diseases, inventing amazing machines, crafting vaccines, developing ways to clean water, improving our lives, and the list goes on and on. Help us to use that cleverness for good and to further Your kingdom. May we recognize our intelligence as a gift from You and to utilize it for the betterment of all peoples. May we share our gifts of discovery with others and seek to care for all our brothers and sisters. Help me to recognize Your hand in my life and to be grateful. Thank You for all Your blessings. In Your name I pray, Amen.
