Psalm 46

Our world is filled with noise. From TV’s and devices blaring around the clock to the roar of crowds, it is sometimes hard to get away from the noise. And I find noise distracting. When my sister and I were still at home, I remember that she would do her homework with her stereo on, and I was most focused when I sat at a desk in silence. That may be why I am drawn to Psalm 46, especially verse 10.

Psalm 46

To the leader. Of the Korahites. According to Alamoth. A Song.

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present[a] help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city;[b] it shall not be moved;

 God will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.[c]
Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord;
see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.[d]
Selah

This song gives an assurance that God will deliver God’s people

God is our refuge and strength, a very present[a] help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

When does that word of assurance drift down? “When the morning dawns.” In my experience, that is the quietest time of the day. That’s a great time to “Be still, and know that God is God.”

Prayer

Let me find a time today to truly focus on Your words of deliverance. Let me revel in Your love for me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
