Breath of Life

One of the most famous stories in the Bible is the story of Adam and Eve. I have read the story numerous times but never spent too much time really pondering it. I have to admit, it makes me even more appreciative of God’s Creation. Our loving God, once again in His infinite wisdom created man. The word adam means human being or earth creature. Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the earth and blew the breath of life into his nostrils. The man became a living being. Genesis 2:7 Did you catch that friends? God breathed life into Adam, I’ve read the story so many times before but this time it gave me chills. Inside every single one of us is breath from God. He created us; He knit us together in our mothers’ womb. It touches me even more now that I am a mom and saw the ultrasounds and how my son grew and changed in my womb. Then when he was born, and I held him in my arms, to know that our Creator did all of that – it’s still absolutely amazing to even think about!

God created Adam to look after the creatures of the land and to farm and take care of the land as well. Back in the very beginning, God wanted mankind to help care of His creation, kind of fitting since we just celebrated Earth Day on April 22. There were plants, animals, beautiful gardens, birds flying in the air, as well as other living creatures, and Adam was told that he could name them all. What a job that must have been! But God didn’t want Adam to be alone, the animals and other living creatures didn’t provide him with the companionship that he really needed and our Lord knew that.

God doesn’t want us to be alone either. Maybe it’s a husband or a wife that God places in our lives, or perhaps God gives us amazing friends, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, and other special people that come to us at just the right time. Like Adam, God desires for us to have companionship, let’s remember how important it is to be that “someone special” for someone else.

Prayer

God of Everything, you created us in our mothers’ womb, you provide us with great beauty all around and wonderful companions to help us along life’s journey. You are amazing, Lord, and we are so thankful. Help us to reach out to those who may not have near companions and help us to show Your love to them through our kindness, listening ear, and friendship. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
