Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal

Isaiah 30:15

In whom do you place your trust? Do you trust your parents? Your children? Your spouse? Do you trust your doctor? Your plumber? Your preacher?

When we trust someone, there is a sense of peace, confidence, and tranquility that comes over us.

The people of God in the time of Isaiah dealt with strife and exile. And then came good news of peace and of an opportunity to return to home and happiness.

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:
In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.

Isaiah 30:15

Do you trust in God? Can you imagine that God has our happiness in mind as we allow ourselves to be drawn even closer pack to God’s side?

The editors of the Glory to God Hymnal suggested a connection between Isaiah 30:15 and hymn 169 Dear Lord and Father of Mankind.

In simple trust like theirs who heard,
beside the Syrian sea,
the gracious calling of the Lord,
let us, like them, without a word,
rise up and follow thee.

Our journey with God today might call upon us to trust and do something we feel God calling us to do. Let’s see if a tranquil spirit might wash over us as we try out this trust walk. Amen

Prayer:

Dear God, wash over me with your presence in such a way that I might trust, love, and serve you today and each day. Amen.
