Psalm 19:1-6

The heavens are telling the glory of God, and the firmament[a] proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy, and like a strong man runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens and its circuit to the end of them, and nothing is hid from its heat. –

This photo is from a camping trip in the mountains of North Carolina. It reminds me of a cool evening breeze, the warmth and crackle of the campfire, and the sounds of cicadas and owls in the night. In all that beauty of the night, God is there. It is easy to get caught up in God’s presence in a grand vista or even a stunning sunrise, but God is just as present in what happens at night. This forest was alive in the evening. Even as we rest and slumber, God remains active and vigilant. God watches over us, protects us, and keeps us safe. May we be grateful today for God’s continual care and may we respond with love and kindness to all of God’s creation today.

Prayer

God of day and night, we thank You for Your unwavering love and constant presence. Thank You for watching over us last night and we are grateful for the gift of a new morning. Strengthen us to remember how You are steadfast and may we respond with faithful love and discipleship. Amen.
