When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices;
and when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.

By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
   but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Where there is no guidance, a nation falls,
   but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
Proverbs 11:10-11, 14

Even back in the time of Solomon, there was concern for the city and the nation and their leaders. “When it goes well with the righteous the city rejoices”. “The mouth of the wicked can cause overthrow, whereas by the blessings of the upright the city is exalted.”

There are some loaded terms here — righteous, upright, wicked. Each of these can be measured by God’s Word. It takes some study, reading, and prayer. It takes putting our other allegiances and ideas to the test of whether we are on God’s side, or are we imagining that God is always on our side? Our hope and prayer is that our leaders will rely on the counsel of those who are seeking God’s Word and Will first.

Prayer

God, we do pray for our leaders, each and every day, in the hope that our city, our state, our nation will truly be moving toward Your righteousness, justice, peace. Bless us and make us a blessing through our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Amen.
