28 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

In the days not so long ago when we were able to gather freely in the groups of larger than ten people for worship, many of us found our faith nurtured in the pews here at First Pres.

One of poignant features of this place is our Christ Window. Many of us know that there is a bottom third to the Christ Window. It faces Sixth Street, and has an inscription that can be read by people passing by. The inscription reads —

Come unto me, all ye who labour and are heavy laden and I will give ye rest.

We have each responded to that invitation at some point. And even when we can’t come into God’s house to worship together, we can close our eyes and hear that same Jesus call us to His side, where we find our faith strengthened, and our souls nourished.

Prayer

Thank you, God, for calling me to find my rest in weary days alongside my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
