Psalm 94

I had paid just enough attention to what our younger son Stewart said about cartoons and the games the kids played at pre-school to have recognized the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” action figures as I passed them in the store a few months before Christmas. On a whim, I picked up all of them and put them in my shopping cart. Little did I know that they would be one of THE gifts of that Christmas season, selling out quickly and causing parents and news-casters to panic. That chance purchase brought Stewart one of the biggest smiles I can remember that Christmas morning. As he unwrapped the presents and found the Yellow Ranger, the Green Ranger, the Blue Ranger AND the Red Ranger, he could hardly contain his excitement. I can still remember him saying, as he clutched his dream haul, “I must have been really good this year.

While I don’t recall all the details from that Christmas so many years ago, I will always remember the joy that I felt being able to give what was, in Stewart’s mind, the perfect gift. There is Christmas joy in giving as well as receiving.

Prayer

Thank you, Dear God, for the loving gift that You gave to all Your children on that first Christmas. It still makes me smile, as I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
