I Want To Thirst For You

1 You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.

2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 63:1-8

What takes up your time? Where do you put your focus? If you had to categorize your life, where would your relationship with God fall on your priority list? This is going to be a truly honest and open devotion. Just like most of you, I get wrapped up in ME. I worry about what I’m going to eat, what errands must be done today, which e-mails need a response now, and the list goes on and on. I TRY to start my day in prayer to God, laying out the concerns I have for the day and praying that His will may be done. This doesn’t always happen, and sometimes it’s so quick and not very intimate that I forget an hour later that I actually did start the day in prayer.

I’ve read Psalm 63:1-8 before, probably several times in my life. But it wasn’t until TODAY that I actually READ Psalm 63. I read it, I read it again, and then I stopped and let it truly sink in. Then as I was going about my errands for today, I kept going back to these powerful verses. I want that kind of relationship with Our God. I want to thirst for Him; I don’t know what it’s like to be truly thirsty, but I can imagine it would be all consuming. I want to be consumed in Him. I pray that my whole being will long for Him and that I won’t get so caught up in “my to-do list,” but rather in relationship with Him and what He wants me to do. The idea of praising God all throughout the day just brings me such joy. There have been several times in my life where I have visited extraordinary sanctuaries – and I have always been totally overcome by His presence especially inside those places. Then again, there are wonders like the Grand Canyon that take my breath away, and I am humbled by the fact that our Creator did all of that. Then of course, there’s every day gifts such as sunrises and sunsets – He is glorified in each and every one of those.

What about you? Where do you go or what do you do to truly experience Him? Have you recently sat down and read Psalm 63:1-8? I encourage to read those verses every day this week, then stop and let them bless you. See where they will lead you, because I do believe it’s going to be GRAND. It’s going to be an awesome experience as we all draw closer to Our God.

Prayer

Awesome Creator, draw us ever so close to you this week. We pray that we will thirst for you, like we’ve never experienced before. Use these scriptures to speak to our hearts and help us to live them out every day. We praise You and give You thanks. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
