Matthew 25:34-40

Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

The Mission is a non-profit dedicated to serving and helping their neighbors in Winter Haven. Since 1977, they have sought to provide physical, spiritual, social and moral support, at no charge, to those they serve. The Mission is open Monday through Friday and typically serves about 125 guests per day.

Key aspects of their ministry include a food pantry, showers, and a licensed clinical therapist. They offer a wide variety of services and have themed days of service such as: motivational movies and popcorn on Monday, art therapy on Tuesdays, celebrating recovery on Wednesday, and game days on Thursdays. They have a variety of opportunities for volunteers and often have special appeals for food, clothing, or hygiene items. Our church has also supported The Mission for many years with a contribution from the Deacon’s Fund.

Prayer

Gracious God, You call us to care for our neighbor and have given us Your Son as an example of how we are to love one another. Thank You for The Mission and the variety of ways that make a difference in the lives of people who need You and need our help. Strengthen us to not turn a blind eye towards those in need and to reach out with compassion and care. Amen.
