One of the things that draws me to worship each Sunday is the music. Whether it be the Praise Band at 9 am or the Chancel Choir at 11 am, leading the voices of the congregation in the praise of God, music is special.

In writing devotions at the start of a new year, I am struck by how many songs help our souls soar to God. One hymn found in our current hymnal, “When In Our Music God Is Glorified,” summarizes this phenomenon.

As we will gather this Sunday for worship, God will be glorified through our music. In our music this Sunday, like every Sunday, we will be responding to the call that echoes in Psalm 100.

Psalm 110:1, 3

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing. Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.

Prayer

Thank you God for the gift of music. Help us to lift our voices, our instruments, our minds and our souls to you as we give you praise for all that you have done for us. In Jesus’ name we sing and pray. Amen.
