John 8:12

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Description: We are surrounded every Sunday by symbols of our faith, like the candle’s being lit every Sunday, we know they are there but sometimes we forget ‘why.’ The candle’s themselves being lit every Sunday morning before worship are to remind us of Christ’s presence. The light itself connects to God’s creation of the world and light from nothing. The light also symbolizes God’s presence with the Israelites in the wilderness in Exodus. The comfort of that flame as a symbol our new life and then, once worship ends, it is carried out with us into the world. We are never alone, may the light of the candle be a comforting presence in your darkness nights.

Prayer

Ever-present Lord, we warm our heart’s with the light of Your love and hold it close as the darkness closes in at the end of each day. May the light of the candle continue to remind us of such love from the very beginning of time and that continue call to follow. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
