Psalm 114

God’s Wonders at the Exodus

When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
Judah became God’s[a
] sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.

The sea looked and fled;
Jordan turned back.
The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.

Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turns the rock into a pool of water,
the flint into a spring of water.

There’s a whole book in the Bible that gives the detailed account of the Exodus.  Which story is most important to tell?

The hardship of the people of Israel?

The birth and life of Moses?

The plagues?

The Psalmist talked about how, when Israel went out from Egypt in God’s power, the “sea looked and fled.”  That’s something to note and remember.

Keep that in mind when you are asking for a mighty act of God.

Prayer

Mighty God, Let me remember Your divine power over nature and this created world as I turn to You for the help I need today. Amen.
