1 Chronicles 29:11

Yours, O Lord, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.

A doxology is a short hymn of praise to God. In our context of worship here at First Pres, The Doxology is typically sung at our Traditional Worship service following the dedication of our offering. The words that we sing are:

Praise God, from whom all blessing flow;
praise Him, all creatures here below;
praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

This response is essentially a sung prayer acknowledging God’s goodness and provision. This prayer of praise is accompanied by an affirmation that all praise, glory, and honor should be lifted up to God in our gratitude both here on earth and throughout the heavens.

Prayer

Almighty God, You truly are the source of all goodness in our world and in our lives. We give You thanks and praise for Your blessings, for the gift of Your Son, Jesus, and Your life-giving Word. Empower us today and help us to speak and act as Your grateful creation. Amen.
